Adam Dewey & Crazy Creek

Traditional and Original Bluegrass

The resurgence in the popularity of bluegrass music started by movies like "O Brother Where Art Thou" has brought recognition to the bands that have been keeping the bluegrass flame alive in Boston for many years. Chief among them is Adam Dewey and Crazy Creek. This traditional, roots-oriented bluegrass band has been performing on the Boston music scene since 1993.

Combining the influences of Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, Flatt and Scruggs and Boston's own Joe Val with their own musical sensibilities, the band has developed a sound that pays homage to tradition, breaks new ground and is, without doubt, their own. This deep-grooved sound and the band's electric stage presence are evident on their live recording, "Live at the Cantab", and their 1999 self-titled debut CD. They have an energetic performing style that has entertained festival audiences in Canada and Europe as well as throughout the Northeast.

With their powerful trio vocals, their repertoire of gospel quartets featuring Scruggs-style guitar and their driving instrumental styles, Crazy Creek has developed a reputation as one of the top bluegrass outfits in New England.

Adam Dewey's involvement with bluegrass music dates back some 25 years. In that time, he has developed an exciting, creative style on the mandolin that complements a strong, expressive voice and galvanizing stage presence. On stage, whether singing, playing or M.C.ing, he is unquestionably at the center of the Crazy Creek sound and style.

Bub (Edmund) Cooper is another gifted singer whose voice that grabs you deep inside and gives you goose bumps!! He learned to play bluegrass aboard the USS Cape Cod during his long, honorable career in the US Navy. He is a native of Gardiner Maine and comes from a very musical family. Now he joins Adam Dewey & Crazy Creek and adds his stellar voice to complete one of the best bluegrass groups in the Northeast.

Steven Peterson's love of bluegrass was born on a chance motorcycle trip to the famous Berkshire Mountain Bluegrass Festival in upstate New York, now known as Grey Fox. He sped home, bought a banjo and taught himself to play. After a 15 year sabbatical to raise a family and build a house in Maine, he returned to his love of the banjo and helped found the Union River Bluegrass Band. Now he joins Adam Dewey & Crazy Creek. His smooth subtle right hand and his high energy stage presence will be a great new addition.

Jason (Jay) Sawyer brings an original bass style that compliments Adam Dewey's precision timing and driving mandolin style. Jay uses techniques that he learned by watching Eric Levenson, who previously played with Joe Val and also Crazy Creek. He literally stands behind each of our guys during their breaks which gives us the drive that no other band around New England can match. Jay is also a country drummer and won the Lowell banjo contest in 2006.
